Peak Week

high - peak color is unfolding everywhere
Peak Week

It's week nine of the color season and you can throw a rock just about anywhere in WNC and you'll hit high - peak color. In particular, elevations around 4000' are experiencing a beautiful overlap of first and second peak.

Second Peak: when the majority of hardwoods peak, providing a second round of color after maples, sourwoods, etc. have dropped their leaves

Stick season has taken over above 5800', while the past-peak line has dropped to 5000' and will continue its slow march down the mountainside.

Color is expected to continue for another few weeks.

This weekend and all of next week will be the best time to catch vibrant and rich colors at every entrance to the Parkway.

Below is a sign we're nearing the end of the color season; patches of green are becoming a minority across the landscape.
