It's week six of the color season and we have observed hillsides of high color, isolated pockets of peak and a ridgeline or two of past-peak.

Birch, maples, poplars, and sourwood trees are turning color in earnest, with yellow birch in particular leading the charge.

Upper Hwy 215 above the Flat Laurel Creek bridge is at high - peak color and we can officially say Birch Week is underway. The above and below pictures are of the West Fork of the Pigeon River, taken this past week.
